Blanca miraba sin envidia el regalo que le habia tocado a su hermana, saboreando interiormente el placer que habia de causarle el verse reina. De repente oyó grande estruendo y voceria de cazadores, y como saliese á la puerta para verlos, pareció tan linda a los ojos del rey, que se casó con ella.
Blanca, luego que se vió reina, dijo á su hermana Colorada:
—No quiero que seas labradora, yen conmigo, hermanita, y te casaré con un gran señor.
—Mil gracias, querida hermana; estoy acostumbrada á vivir en el campo, no quiero mudar de vida.
La reina Blanca partió á la córte, y estaba tan loca de alegría, que pasó noches enteras sin pegar los ojos. Los primeros meses estaba tan ocupada en sus trajes, en saraos y teatros, que de nada más se acordaba. Pero al poco tiempo, acostumbrada ya á todo, ninguna de estas cosas podia distraerla; y tenia por el contrario grandes motivos de desazon y disgusto.
Las damas de la córte, envidiosas de ver convertida en reina á una simple campesina, no podian verla ni en pintura. Desquitábanse de los actos de respeto que estaban obligadas á tributarle, murmurando y diciendo de ella cuantas picardías podian. Las murmuraciones y chismes llegaron á oídos del rey, y en vrtdad, en verdad que no le hicieron buen estómago. Empezó desde entónces á mirar con malos ojos á la reina; porque su majestad era por otra parte algun tanto veleidoso y casquivano. No bien se apercibieron los cortesanos de que el amor del rey a la reina se habia enfriado, empezaron a descararse con ella y á faltarle al respeto. La pobre Blanca no tardó mucho en sentir todo el rigor de su mala estrella. Conoció que en la córte era moneda corriente vender á los amigos por el interés, poner cara de pascua á los enemigos, y mentir a trochemoche.
Tenia que estar siempre muy séria y muy estirada, porque, segun decian, convenia á la majestad real un continente grave y severo.
