meta:Talk:Philip Greenspun illustration project : Rewards[modifier le code]

US$ illustration level Numbers Sum
Current proposal (635 img. for $20000 )
$15 simple x 200 = $3.000
$40 complex x 435 = $17.000
New proposal (300 img. for $20000)
$25 simple x 80 = $2.000
$80 complex x 200 = $16.000
$100 very complex x 20 = $2.000
Ok, I understand this new situation, but is it welcome ?
Graphics tablet
Graphics tablet
I means, in the other side we have Wikigraphists of the graphic labs who frequently made "simple SVG illustrations" with archaic mouse. Can't the Greenspun project offert them a 30 US$ Graphics tablet ? By exemple, in 2006, french user Jastrow offered an old historical atlas to one of them (20Euro), in the year, the graphists provided 4 or 5 SVG maps (so about 4US$ the map...). We can think the same of non-maps topics : graphists often just need links towards good sources, or a clear book, or a more convenient tools (Graphics tablet), in sum, can't the foundation or the Greenspun project provide them sources, ease their work, and encourage them a bit allowing they by this way to provide even more of their amazing work.

Many thanks for your maps : I dreamed of this since I'm 8 ! So do them slowly... one by month, no rush...

After what : please take contact with commons:user:Sting, commons:user:Sémhur, or commons:user:MapMaster. Sting made and make AMAZING SVG maps, and in your case, SVG may be easier to edit (but will have to be more protect (?)). Sémhur followed Sting, but have now a bigger experience in SVG Historical maps. Mapmaster also have pretty good experience in historical maps. Anyway, Sting (, Sémhur, and MapMaster) can probably help you [give advices for sure ! help you to edit your maps : maybe] if you fell that the SVG transition is need, especially if you request their advices ;).

Other thing : your maps are currently only available on the English Wikipedia only. This can be more convenient to raise support and corrections. But it will soon or late be need to upload your maps on Wikimedia_Commons, this allowing ALL the Wikipedia to use your maps (jpg, png [better that jpg!] or SVG as well).

Pic up the assistance that you need :

All this to say : THANKS !

400 images for the 400 most use English words[modifier le code]

We need such images, especially for Wikiversity and ease free language teaching/learning.

A such graphic project need to create about 200 - 400 images, by one skilled graphist, expressing simply (quickly draw in comic/manga style) the most used words (objects, actions, animals, ...). And this will probably need more than 40 or 80 US$ (1? 2? 4US$ / image ?).

With who take contact ?
  • Kasuga : commons ja (creator of Wikipe-tan in manga style : )
  • LadyofHats : commons - de (best SVG graphist on commons : )
  • Niabot : commons - de (Seems a great SVG-Manga graphist : , EN-3
  • Yamavu : commons - have made some SVG
  • ?? others

I support more Kasuga because his characters are clearly link to Wikimedia and free knowledge share, the manga style (schematic draw) being especialy welcome for this use, but do he work in SVG ? For LadyofHats, I never seen him draw manga characters, but he have amazing skills, and already fully work in SVG format. For Niabot, I don't no if he can talk english, and he just made one amazing SVG-manga.

how to process

The graphist should first show us 5 images, with the english word on the bottom. If the result is great, he get the task. Images should be :

  • Format : SVG is strongly encouraged, of course (but PNG may be vertorized by volunteers later);
  • Basic : drawing should be basic( avoid to have to many details = parasites). Images of such on this page are really fine, doesn't need more.
  • Style : your set of image have to be in the same graphic style (I encourage the Manga style) ;
  • Words : be based on the Basic English wordlist (Basic_English_alphabetical_wordlist 200_Picturable_words).
  • Background : transparent background need, or white one ;
  • English : the english work should be display on the bottom with a clear font ;
  • Size : each image should be in a square (ex: size 300px/300px) ;
  • Name : Images should have a conventional name, ex with keyword "free" : Free-banana.svg ; Free-tree.svg, etc.
  • Advancement : you should keep a wikipage with the list of the words you plan to do, and enlighting those that you already made.

Multilanguage svg - proposition "simple"[modifier le code]

Hello,
After a talk with Yug, I'd like to propose a technical implementation of multi-language svg.
I think it is simple enough to be done by volunteers.

Proposition in 3 steps :

  • 1/ Create a tool that can create automatically language-specific svg based on a multi-language svg file.

Example: Image:Multilanguage test.svg generates Image:Multilanguage test.svg/en Image:Multilanguage test.svg/de Image:Multilanguage test.svg/fr. (all languages present in the multilanguage). This step does not need any update of MediaWiki, and pictures can be easily integrated in projects.

  • 2/ Integrate the tool in MediaWiki, making transparent the creation/update of the associated files /fr /de etc.
  • 3/ Think about a probably infeasible automatic detection of language depending on the project, or on the selected user-interface language...

Wikimédia France[modifier le code]

Bonjour,
