Remarques:
- le bel est une unité sans dimension; étant mathématiquement le rapport entre deux valeurs de même grandeur, l'opération de son calcul compense les dimensions en jeu. Il peut être utilisé pour exprimer n'importe quel rapport de pression (électricité, acoustique ...)
- dans certains domaines particuliers, on ne définit pas le bel, mais le décibel
